Now it can be said that I'm a fabric junkie! Here's the fabric I bought from an eBay seller last week. I was looking for fabric strips to make Steve's Log Cabin quilt, but I didn't want to have to cut hundreds of strips for it. I hit the jackpot with this! There's over four pounds of fabric here, all cut in the exact width I need for the quilt.
Now I have to sit down with my ironing pad and iron all the strips. My sewing machine's in the shop, so I don't have anything else to do, LOL!

(Also known as Quilt Construction #5 for those who have been following along. For those of you who are new to my blog, the other posts about this quilt are below).
Ok...today I've sewn one block of the alternate color (pink squares) to show you, which is the photo on the left.
Next, is the photo (middle left) of the Rail Fence blocks, which are made from four strips, sewn together in the same order. There are eight of these blocks. The Rail Fence blocks go between the blocks on the left to make rows. A partial row is shown, below left.
Click on photo to go to a larger view. After I finish sewing all the pink blocks and Rail Fence blocks, the next step will be sewing together the rows of blocks. I'll show you that step Monday.Stay tuned...
So, there you have it. One block completed. I have 15 blocks total to sew together. They're not all the same color. I won't post again until I have a block of the other color to show you, and have all the blocks completed. Sewing the blocks together will probably take a couple of days. So, if I'm on schedule, Thursday I should be ready to post again. The next step, Thursday, (hopefully not Friday) will be to show the next type of block that will go with these. They are completely different.
Have to go--housework to do and maybe take-out for dinner. Brian was called by his manager to work an earlier shift than he was scheduled for, so we have to pick him up tonight.
Stay tuned...
I've changed the title of my post to reflect where I am in the construction of my quilt. Part #1 was cutting the fabric.
Part #2 which I don't have a photo for, was sewing together 2 1/2" x 22" strips of fabric, then cutting them into segments 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" (the strip on left side in photo). I have all the strips sewn into blocks (on the right side of photo). All blocks sewn is Part #3.
The second photo (below right) shows what seams on the back side 'should' look like if they're ironed in the right direction and sewn properly. They should lay flat as shown. This eliminates bumps in the seam intersections, which are very difficult to sew over, either by hand or machine. No bumps in the seams also gives the quilt a nice flat look on the front side.
I will post more photos later. I found I have a couple of strips which I have to take apart and re-sew.
For an idea of what this quilt will look like, click on the left photo. (I hope it enlarges). The fabrics in the magazine photo are the same as the ones I have, minus a few in *my* quilt. I like to make quilts from magazine photos, as close to the original as I can. It's just something I like to do. I have another quilt that I haven't finished, one that was on the cover of a magazine years ago. I should get it out and finish it, but that will be for another time.
Anyway--I had to add in some fabric from my collection--the yellow and the lime green--but I really like the way they coordinate with what I bought last week. The labels you see pinned on the fabrics are required per the instructions, so I know which pieces to sew together.
I'm really excited to see what the quilt top will look like. I will update here as I go along.
